Global writing community and multiplatform entertainment company Wattpad has, as of this week, surpassed 80 million monthly users. It's a 23% increase from 2018, and follows a prolific year of deals and program rollouts for the original storytelling company.

Most recently, Wattpad announced on July 18 the completion of its global rollout of two of the company’s most central monetization initiatives: Wattpad Premium, which offers an ad-free experience, and Wattpad Paid Stories, an exclusive paid content program. The programs are now available to users around the world, and have seen success: In the month of June, Wattpad Paid users read more than 5.5 million minutes of Wattpad Paid Stories.

What's behind the company's continued success? It might be a positive feedback loop: The new programs bring in new users, and the growing userbase powers the platform's programs.

"Wattpad exists because of the talented writers and supportive readers who have helped our community and product grow all over the world," said Jeanne Lam, General Manager, Wattpad.

"Since day one, our vision has been to entertain and connect the world through stories, and this milestone represents both our user growth and the success we've had making Wattpad the best platform in the world for writers and their fans. We're excited to continue to welcome new readers and writers to Wattpad, connecting them to stories they love and to each other, while bringing Wattpad stories to new mediums and audiences around the globe."

Other plates Wattpad has been spinning over the past year? Film and TV partnerships and projects with eight major international studios and entertainment brands to bring Wattpad stories to screens; The launch of Wattpad Books, the company’s first direct publishing division; a collaboration between Wattpad Books and Penguin Random House UK; and the theatrical premiere of After, a Wattpad story adaptation that largely missed with critics but opened at number one in 17 countries and stands as the top-grossing independent film of 2019. The sequel is in production.
