Elena Delle Donne Tops WNBA’s Most Popular Jersey List

The WNBA announced today that Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne topped the league’s most popular jersey list for the third consecutive season. Coming off a record-breaking season, Delle Donne is the first player in WNBA history to shoot over 50% from the field (220 of 427), 40% from 3-point range (52 of 121) and 90% from the foul line (114 of 117). Entering the 50/40/90 club places the 6-foot-5 Delle Donne, the leading WNBA MVP candidate, alongside Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers including Steve Nash, Reggie Miller and Larry Bird.

The remaining top-selling WNBA jerseys are the Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson (No. 2), the Los Angeles Sparks’ Candace Parker (No. 3), the Phoenix Mercury’s Diana Taurasi (No. 4), and the Seattle Storm’s Sue Bird (No. 5). Rankings are based on WNBAStore.com sales since the beginning of the 2019 season.

The only rookie to make the top-selling list is Arike Ogunbowale of the Dallas Wings (No. 8). After a stand-out college career at the University of Notre Dame, Ogunbowale made history by being the first rookie in WNBA history to score over 30 points in three straight games. Seattle Storm forward Breanna Stewart dropped to No. 9 on the list. The 2018 MVP and WNBA champion missed the entire season after suffering an Achilles tendon rupture while playing overseas.

Liz Cambage, Kelsey Plum and Kayla McBride of the Aces round out the list at No. 6, No. 7 and No. 10 respectively. Not surprisingly, the Aces landed atop of team merchandise after debuting at No. 2 last year. MGM Resorts International owns the Aces, which are playing in their second season after relocating from San Antonio (formerly the Stars).

The remaining most popular team merchandise are the Minnesota Lynx (No. 2), the Seattle Storm (No. 3), the New York Liberty (No. 4) and the Washington Mystics (No. 5).  The Liberty returned to the top team rankings for the first time since 2010.

The 2019 WNBA Playoffs are underway. Delle Donne and the No. 1 seeded Mystics received a double-bye into the semifinals and will begin action on September 17 .
