Aside from They Ready, the comedy special she co-produced with Wanda Sykes as a means of introducing Chaunté Wayans, April Macie, Tracey Ashley, Aida Rodriguez, Flame Monroe, and Marlo Williams to a much wider audience, Tiffany Haddish has also been hard at work on her own Netflix special.

On Thursday, the comic and the streamer jointly announced Tiffany Haddish: Black Mitzvah would debut on Tuesday, December 3.

“I’m super, duper excited to announce that my special, Black Mitzvah, is coming out December the 3rd,” she says in the announcement video. “It’s called Black Mitzvah for a reason – because I’m black, and on that same day, I’m gonna have my bat mitzvah, and then I’ll be an official grown woman.”

“‘And what do you mean you’re black and you’re having a bat mitzvah, Tiffany?’ Well, don’t know if y’all know this about me, but I’m Jewish. I’m Jewish by DNA. I did my 23 & Me. I know what I am. I’m a real Hebrew over here. So, because of my father, I want to honor him and our ancestors. I want to do something that represents growth and maturity. And I want to teach. That’s what I’ve been put on this planet to do: teach. And Judaism is all about that – teaching, learning, sharing stories. That’s what Black Mitzvah is all about.”

In an official press release accompanying Haddish’s video announcement, Netflix described the coming special as “a revealing journey” through the comedian’s life. “With her bold and barrier-breaking brand of comedy, Tiffany reflects on fame, receiving her ‘inheritance,’ the valuable lessons you learn when raising yourself, that time she received a jumpsuit from the one and only... Beyoncé, her infamous New Year’s Eve set, and more.”
