Everything Coming In Fortnite's '14 Days Of Summer' Event: Challenges, Free Rewards And LTMs

I suppose we're halfway through 2016 already, which I'm a bit suspect of considering New Year's was only a few weeks ago, I'm fairly certain. But that means we're in the heat of summer: school's out, people are flocking to vacation destinations and Fortnite characters are apparently sunning themselves on the beach. Epic just announced the 14 Days of Summer, a fortnight-long celebration with free rewards, challenges and LTMs for anyone that shows up to party here in the waning days of Season 9.

The model here is clearly the 14 days of Fortnite, which graced out battlers during Christmastime with a similar suite of rewards, LTMs and challenges. That was one of the best free drops of rewards this game has ever had, with even top-tier cosmetics like that awesome gingerbread man available for free players. The rewards are looking pretty good here, too, though not quite as generous as that previous event. Let's dive in:

LTMS: Every day we're getting a new LTM for the next two weeks, with some old and some new. There's a mix of squads, solos and duos, and we're even getting a return of fan favorite Wick's bounty: maybe also a reprise for the skin in the shop. I'm particularly excited about the "strategic structures" mode, which makes building a much more difficult operation overall. That's great for me, because I'm terrible at building.

This is paired with the "builder's paradise" LTM, which I am definitely *not* looking forward to.

You can see the complete LTM list here.

Unvaulting: Every day we're going to get a new, unvaulted weapon that will be available for 24 hours only. Call it a recompense for anyone that didn't get their favorite weapon unvaulted in the big event last season. This is sure to play hell with the meta, but that's what's fun about things like this.

Challenges: It wouldn't be a special event without some challenges, and there are some fun ones in here. It looks like the map is going to get a summery makeover, with beach umbrellas, balloons, beach parties and more. They're going to be a little more traditional than what we've seen before, with some asking us to find floaties in ponds, destroy grills, score points on a carnival clown board or dance at beach parties. It should be a good time.

Rewards: The real prize here is a Peely smoothie back bling, a reference to the somewhat grim way Jonesy was able to sustain himself during his long stay in the bunker. But there's a lot of other good stuff in there too, particularly a "Fork Knife" back bling that plays off of what I gather the kids are calling this thing. Most of the rest is a collection of loading screens and other less-desirable rewards, but there's a pretty slick-looking contrail in there as well as what should be a fun toy. You can see them all here.
