Drake dominated the past decade with chart-topping albums, singles, and more hits on charts all around the world than most of the other artists mentioned in this article combined. He has found a way to craft hip-hop that reaches the masses and can work on radio stations peddling almost every genre, and he’s honed his skills as a hook writer and nearly perfected the artform of the crossover smash. Those abilities have landed him the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s just-published list of the most-streamed musicians of the past decade.

The Canadian crooner may be the most-streamed act, but he comes in second when looking specifically at songs. Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” has been crowned the most-streamed track of the past 10 years, and he earns that title by placing over half a billion streams between him and his biggest competition.

Of the eight musicians mentioned below, seven are solo men, three are women working on their own, and just one is a group. That shows that solo male acts still dominate the charts and streaming sites around the world, and bands, even ones working in EDM, are at something of a disadvantage.

Here are the most-streamed songs and artists on Spotify of the past decade.

Most-Streamed Songs of the Decade

1. Ed Sheeran - “Shape of You” - 2.353 billion streams

2. Drake - “One Dance (ft. Kyla and Wizkid)” - 1.772 billion streams

3. Post Malone - “Rockstar (ft. 21 Savage)” - 1.748 billion streams

4. The Chainsmokers - “Closer (ft. Halsey)” - 1.665 billion streams

5. Ed Sheeran - “Thinking Out Loud” - 1.441 billion streams

Amazingly, Ed Sheeran not only claims two spots inside the top five with a pair of the most beloved songs of the past decade on the world’s most popular streaming platform, he leads the way by an enormous margin. The British singer-songwriter’s tropical pop tune “Shape of You” is still the only track that’s reached the two billion stream-mark, and it will remain the only one for some time, as the next biggest cut, Drake’s “One Dance,” is still several hundred million plays behind.

Four songs have reached a billion and a half streams, and Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” will likely pass that number soon.

Most-Streamed Artists of the Decade

1. Drake

2. Ed Sheeran

3. Post Malone

4. Ariana Grande

5. Eminem

Drake may not have scored the most-streamed song this decade, but he is the most-streamed artist, and he tops the sex-specific list of men as well. His albums have proven to be streaming behemoths, and he almost landed two of the top five most-played tracks, as his single “God’s Plan” is the sixth-most streamed cut. Drake’s total count now reaches into the tens of billions, and it’s no wonder he ended up at No. 1.

Of the top five most-streamed musicians of the past 10 years, only one, Ariana Grande, is a woman. Three—Drake, Post Malone and Eminem—are rappers, and Sheeran is holding up the pop front among men.
