I have covered Russia and the former Soviet Union since the end of the Soviet period. Between 1991 and 2009, I completed three postings to Moscow: one for Reuters TV, and two for the BBC. My correspondent career also included postings to Brussels and the Middle East. I now lecture in International Journalism at City, University of London. In 2017-18, I also carried out consultancy work in the Middle East for the Thomson Foundation on reporting terrorism. I am the author of three books: Reporting Conflict (2012); No Road Home: Fighting for Land and Faith in Gaza (2013); and Headlines from the Holy Land (2015). My next book, Assignment Moscow: Reporting Russia from Lenin to Putin, is due to be published in 2020. I speak fluent Russian and French, and some Danish.
