The Wait Is Over: First Trailer For Daniel Craig’s Bond Finale ‘No Time To Die’ Drops

We are still slightly more than four months away from the debut of the new James Bond film, No Time To Die, but Bond fans woke up this morning to the first trailer for Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007, along with updated odds on who may be performing the film’s theme song.

For the millions of fans who wait years for the next 007 installment, today was like Christmas morning. In addition to the trailer debut, the film’s stars Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, and Rami Malek, along with director Cary Fukunaga, appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America to celebrate a special Bond Day on the show.

The action-packed trailer shows the usual amount of high-octane Bond action and this teaser also conveys the sense of angst and lament which has been hinted at as the theme for this 007 outing. The trailer also features Bond co-stars Seydoux, a Phantom of the Opera-like Malek as the main villain Safin, Ralph Fiennes, Christoph Waltz, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, and Bond’s new 00 partner, Lashana Lynch. The trailer also teases the welcome return of Jeffrey Wright as CIA agent Felix Leiter.

Filming on No Time To Die officially wrapped in October and included stops in locations such as the Southern Italy region of Basilicata, Bond author Ian Fleming’s former home of Jamaica, a third-time filming stop in Norway, and, of course, London.

In addition to the new teaser, rumors have been circulating for months as to who would be performing the main title song, always a source of speculation and controversy. The opportunity to be featured against the film’s opening credits has lured some of the most famous music acts in history such as Madonna, Adele, Tom Jones, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, and A-ha (just checking if you’re still paying attention) to add their names to the pantheon of Bond theme performers.

Over the course of 24 films the results have ranged from the iconic (Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney and Wings and Goldfinger by three-time performer Shirley Bassey) to the solid (Carly Simon’s Nobody Does It Better or A View to a Kill by Duran Duran) to the Say What? (Jack White and Alicia Keyes’ lorry wreck Another Way To Die).

The announcement of who will be performing the opening credit theme song usually come 2-3 months prior to their respective film’s opening dates so for an April release we may be a bit early for a formal announcement but that hasn’t stopped UK bookmakers from laying odds for the past several months. Currently, Ed Sheeran leads the pack at 6/4 according to Betway. Lurking just behind Sheeran are singers Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa at 4-1 with others such as Harry Styles, Lewis Capaldi, Rag & Bone Man, Jorja Smith, George Ezra, and Liam Gallagher (yes, THAT Liam Gallagher) also in the mix, along with possible repeat visits from both Adele and Sam Smith.

In the Outside Shot category it might be worth a look at artists such as Bastille (propelled by lead singer Dan Smith’s wonderful version of Can’t Fight This Feeling in the John Lewis/Waitrose Christmas advert), Queen, Lil Nas X, Lana Del Rey, Elton John, Paul McCartney, or, dare we say, an Elton John/Paul McCartney duet, which would be a truly memorable send off for Daniel Craig in his final turn as 007.

The name that makes a certain amount of success is Florence and the Machine. The last few Bond songs have been of the ballad variety and the producers may want a return to something a bit heartier for No Time To Die. Also, it appears in this outing they also want to convey a (long overdue) stronger female image and Florence Welch fits into that plan seamlessly.

One final note, whoever takes the mic this time around it will be against the backdrop of the MGM logo for the first time since 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies after wrestling distribution rights away from Sony Pictures.
